The Commons - Beyond Your Plot The Commons - Our Communal Harvest Garden
The north east section of the garden is a communal harvest area. It is maintained by all members and is free for anyone to take what they need and can use. Seeds and plants in this garden are donated from local nurseries and individuals, we encourage all members to spend some time helping to maintain this area! School groups also support us to keep these plots functioning for all to enjoy. Feel free to walk through this section of Castlegardens and pick a weed, prop up a tomato plant, give it a drink and have a little snack! Pollinator Garden The pollinator garden at the southwest corner of the garden is new in 2016. It is a place we hope to expand and promote to the community as an area to learn about and appreciate our precious pollinators. It also requires member maintenance, so if you are interested in helping out with the pollinator garden, please get in touch with the Board! Community Herb Garden You’ll find this mound garden between the upper and lower beds. Herbs are for all to harvest according to their need, all are invited to help us maintain this garden in the same way you would the communal harvest space! Children’s Garden & Exploration Space (coming in 2017) We are in the midst of recruiting community volunteers to help advise and develop a space for children to learn about gardening, appreciate nature and to explore the great outdoors! This area will allow the Castlegardens to be more inviting to families and encourage inter-generational connection as visitors, gardeners, and children enjoy the additional shaded outdoor seating in this special area. Send us a message if you want to help out! |
