Our Story
Castlegardens was founded in 2009 as a project of the Kootenay Food Strategy Society (KFSS). Located at the Millennium Walkway entrance on 5th Avenue in Castlegar, the garden is a gathering place for gardeners and community members alike.
An overview:
Castlegardens is a community space. We welcome all from the community to explore the oasis we continue to create in the heart of Castlegar. Our garden has both individual beds and communal garden spaces. We welcome people of all ages by offering exploration spaces, growing spaces and places to rest.
What we offer:
· Individual plots to community members
· A communal gardening space where all are free to harvest according to their need
· A bee and butterfly (pollinator) garden
· A locked shed with community tools for members to use on site
· A vegetable cleaning and washing station
· Fruit trees
· A children’s exploration space
· Benches to rest
· Gatherings and events for members and the community
